South Hedland Swans 1980

Swans won their first premiership in 1980.

A brilliant solo effort from forward Terry Tolchard less than a minute before full-time gave South Hedland a narrow four point victory over Karratha Kats for the first flag in the De Grey and west Pilbara Grand Final for 1980.

More than 3,500 people saw the epic struggle at Karratha Oval in which South Hedland erased all memories of their 106 point thrashing by Kats in the second semi-final.

Terry Tolchard was named winner of the Eric Pratt medal.
